Our Art Trail

Welcome to the Scott Point School Art Trail.

Our school is home to a collection of artworks that celebrate the stories, history, culture, and natural environment of this special place. Created in collaboration with artists, learners, and our community, each piece reflects an important part of our identity, from the ancient kauri tree that once stood on this land and the rich history of Scott Point, to the diverse cultures of our whānau and the unique native plants and wildlife of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

As you explore the trail, we invite you to discover the meaning behind each artwork and the connections they create between our past, present, and future, making Scott Point School a place where learning, belonging, creativity, and community come together.

Our Cultures

This series of cultural murals celebrates the diverse cultures and traditions of the Scott Point School community. Inspired by treasured objects and taonga shared by learners and whānau, each mural tells a unique cultural story through symbols, patterns, and art. Together, they reflect the belonging, respect, and unity that make our school community unique.

Our Heritage

This series of panels tells the story of Scott Point, from ancient kauri forests and early Māori settlement to the vibrant community of today. Through changing landscapes, industries, and people, the artworks honour the history that has shaped this place. The series concludes by celebrating Scott Point School as a place of learning, connection, and future growth.

Nga Pou Tuahine

Ngā Pou Tuahine was inspired by the ancient kauri tree that once stood on the Scott Point School site. Representing two sisters who remain connected despite standing apart, the sculptures symbolise strength, belonging, and community. Together, they honour the history of this place and the connections between our past, present, and future.

Koru

Inspired by the ancient Scott Point kauri, this artwork reflects the tree's natural rings and flowing forms. The balanced design represents the connection between whenua and moana, honouring the Kaipara and Te Kawerau ā Maki mana whenua. Created using coloured window decals, it celebrates the history and cultural identity of this place.

Nga Whare Kura

Inspired by the native plants, birds, and landscapes of Aotearoa New Zealand, these murals celebrate the identity of the Scott Point School house groups. Created with the help of our learners, the artworks reflect creativity, collaboration, and a shared connection to nature. Together, they honour the beauty of our unique environment and the place we call home.
